May 4th: Remembering together in Maastricht

1x

On Sunday, May 4th, it is time once again to remember all war victims together. This year, the Remembrance Day ceremony in Maastricht looks a little different than usual. Because of construction work at the Herdenkingsplein, the central commemoration is moving to Koningsplein instead.

Where can you pay your respects?

There are two locations to join the remembrance:

📍 Heer (Raadhuisplein)

  • Gather at the church square in Heer
  • At 7:40 PM, a silent march departs to Raadhuisplein
  • A wreath-laying ceremony follows

📍 Koningsplein

  • 6:15 PM: service at the Lourdeskerk
  • 7:15 PM: silent march via the Groene Loper to the Freedom Monument
  • 7:30 PM: remembrance ceremony with wreath laying
  • 8:00 PM: two minutes of silence
  • 8:30 PM: end of the ceremony

Remembrance is something we do together. By standing still for a moment, we show that we have not forgotten the victims. And we pass on the importance of freedom to the next generations. So come along, stand still, and let us remember together. 🕊️
