Great news for anyone in Limburg who could use a break on transport costs. Starting this Sunday, June 29, the digital application portal opens for Dal Vrij Limburg. First for Maastricht residents, then from July 14 for all other municipalities in Limburg.
What does it mean? With Dal Vrij Limburg you can travel for free on Arriva buses and trains in Limburg during off-peak hours. On weekends and public holidays, it is valid all day. 🚌🚆
Who qualifies?
- You live in Limburg
- Your income is at most 100% of the social minimum
- You complete a digital income check through Qii (an independent organization)
Important: your income data never reaches the Province or Arriva. Qii only uses it for the check, nothing else.
The first year was a huge success. Over 27,000 Limburgers already applied for a pass and 91% of users are positive about the scheme. More than half travel by public transport at least once a week. People say they can more easily visit family, get to medical appointments, or join activities.
You can apply through the Arriva website. Everything is explained step by step so you know exactly what to expect.
What most people do not realize: the portal opens in two phases not because of red tape, but as a deliberate strategy. The Province wants to analyze the first experiences from Maastricht and fix any technical issues before the rest of Limburg joins in. This prevents thousands of applications from crashing a system that has not been fully stress-tested yet.
