It might sound like a late April Fool’s joke, but it’s actually true: this month, you can literally trade your old garden tiles for free new plants! Do you have a patio full of grey pavement or bricks, but dream of a green oasis filled with butterflies and birds? Then the Municipality of Sittard-Geleen has a fantastic offer for you.
How does it work?
On Saturday, April 18, and Saturday, April 25, between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, you can drop off your removed tiles or bricks at various garden centers in the area. In exchange, you’ll receive a voucher to spend that very same day on beautiful flowers and plants.
For every tile (30×30 cm), you’ll receive €2.- in plant credit, up to a maximum of €40.- per person. What a perfect way to start the gardening season!

You can trade in your tiles at the following locations:
- Intratuin Geleen
- Tuincentrum Lemmens in Munstergeleen
- Welkoop in Einighausen
Need help with transport?
Don’t have a trailer or a big car? No worries! The municipality is here to help. You can borrow a trailer or cargo bike for free, or even reserve the “Tegeltaxi” (Tile Taxi) to pick up the stones from your doorstep on scheduled Mondays.
