Summer is lovely, but not for everyone. Many people actually feel more lonely during this time. Neighbors are on holiday, social clubs take a break, and the days can feel very long. That is why Municipality Beek kicks off its Theeleuten campaign again today, and this is already the third year!
The concept is beautifully simple: visit someone who could use some extra company. Think of that neighbor you have not seen in a while, a former colleague, or a family member living alone.
Free goodie bags are waiting for you with tea, cookies, and a handmade card (colored in by students from Basisschool de Kring in Genhout 🎨). You can pick them up at 12 locations across the municipality:
- Town Hall Beek, Raadhuisstraat 9
- PLUS Remco en Sandra Vluggen, Markt 62 Beek
- BILA groep, Veldekelaan 2A Beek
- Partners in Welzijn, Dr Stassenstraat 88 Beek
- Knooppunt Informele Zorg, Dr Stassenstraat 88 Beek
- Vincentiusvereniging, Burg. Visschersstraat 20 Spaubeek
- Zonnebloem Jong, Dorpstraat 23 Spaubeek
- Church Genhout (in the hallway), Hubertusstraat 71
- Glenn Bloemsierkunst, Hobbelrade 2 Spaubeek
- Community Center Neerbeek (Weng), Callistusplein 9
- Neighborhood Association Greverik, Kapelstraat 1 Beek
- Sportlandgoed De Haamen, Beek
A small gesture that can make someone’s entire week ☕
The goodie bags were packed by VIDAR in de wijk, an organization that engages people who are distanced from the labor market in community tasks. This means the campaign has a double impact: it fights loneliness while simultaneously providing meaningful work for people who themselves need connection and purpose.
