Have you heard the news from Maasbracht? They made a frikandel (a classic Dutch deep-fried snack) that measures a whopping 41.45 meters. That is over 135 feet of pure snack glory. The previous record? Completely destroyed.
And here is the best part: it is all for charity. The entire event was organized to raise money for the Dutch Cancer Society (KWF). The organizer himself spent six weeks in the hospital battling cancer, so this cause hits very close to home.
How do you even make something like this?
- The meat mixture is prepared and drained of water
- Then it goes into the oven at 170 degrees Celsius
- The result: a single frikandel stretching 41.45 meters 🎉
On the fundraising side, they have already collected 30,000 euros in sponsorships, with the ultimate goal being 50,000 euros. Every bit counts!
The preparation was full of challenges and problems that needed solving, but in the end everything came together. The team is incredibly proud, and rightfully so.
What most people do not realize is that baking a frikandel at this scale requires extreme precision. At 170 degrees Celsius, the meat must cook evenly across the full 41-meter length, meaning the thickness has to be perfectly uniform everywhere to prevent some sections from burning while others stay raw. The team ran multiple test rounds at different locations over several weeks before attempting the actual record.
