Heads up, Brunssum! Today and tomorrow (Friday 8 and Saturday 9 May) there will be military activity in our area. It is a training exercise by Delta Company, part of the 30th Infantry Battalion of the National Reserve Corps.
What might you see? 👀
- Soldiers on foot and in vehicles
- Checkpoints and patrols, including at night
- Visible (training) weapons and drones
What you will NOT see:
- No loud bangs or gunfire
- No smoke or fire effects
- No road closures
The soldiers are training in guarding and securing tasks: think securing locations, setting up checkpoints, and conducting patrols. These exercises are necessary so that the military is ready when it really counts.
Fun fact: most of this battalion consists of reservists. These are people who combine their military duties with a regular job or studies. They bring real-world experience into the military and put it to use for our safety. 💪
The Ministry of Defence is working together with the municipality, police, and fire brigade during this exercise, so everyone gets familiar with each other’s way of working.
