We all know the feeling, you walk into the cozy Makado for a quick errand, but secretly miss those lovely rays of sunshine on your face. That fully indoor feeling will soon officially be a thing of the past, as the biggest renovation in years is in full swing in Beek. Since it is being talked about immensely online, we have gathered all the facts, you can read all the latest updates on the renovation right here!
Enjoying outdoor terraces at the entrance
The largest shopping center in the Westelijke Mijnstreek region is undergoing an amazing transformation. The old entrances are currently being completely demolished to make way for modern, meters-high glass facades that let in heaps of daylight. The work on the entrances will take about six months, but the result will be well worth it.
The best news of all is that we are getting two lovely outdoor terraces at the renewed East and West entrances. Soon, you will be able to enjoy a warm waffle in the sunshine at Bakker Bart on the East side, or settle down at a brand-new hospitality hotspot on the West side.
Koppie’s Secret: “Don’t let the temporary wooden boarding or the empty spaces scare you off, because this is just a temporary sliding puzzle to make the center future-proof. Currently, you can easily walk inside dust-free via the temporary entrance right next to entrance East, or through the Albert Heijn on the West side!”

The complete overview of all shops and shifts:
To keep things clear, here is the current schedule for all new and relocated shops:
- 🛍️ NORMAL: Officially opened last Thursday, May 28th, where the first 500 customers were immediately treated to a well-filled goodie bag.
- ☕ Coffeelovers & MS Mode: Are coming as brand-new tenants to entrance East, with the opening planned after the final redevelopment at the end of 2026.
- 🍦 Jamin & Het IJshuisje: Have temporarily moved to another spot within the center due to the demolition, but will return to entrance East in about six months.
- 270 Norah & Nuvio: Norah has since opened a larger store next to HEMA, and Nuvio has also successfully relocated within the shopping center.
- 📦 HEMA, KPN & Boekenvoordeel: Have all extended their leases long-term. HEMA is going to expand significantly at its current location, while KPN and Boekenvoordeel will soon move to a new unit.
Something to look forward to
What wonderful plans for our trusted shopping center in Beek. We at Kopje Limburg are secretly looking forward most of all to the arrival of Coffeelovers, because a truly good cup of coffee always makes us happy! But with the new shops and those sunny outdoor terraces, it is bound to be a fantastic upgrade for the entire region anyway. Which renovation or shop are you looking forward to the most?
