Ever thought ‘we really need a bench here’ or ‘why don’t we have a street party’? This is your chance to actually make that happen, with money from the municipality.
The Participatory Budget 2026 is open again and here is how it works:
- There is a total of 50,000 euros available
- As a resident you can request up to 5,000 euros
- Foundations and associations can get up to 15,000 euros
- Your idea needs to contribute to community life or a nicer living environment
- You can submit from August 15 through September 15, 2026
After submission, all plans are evaluated and participants vote together on which ideas actually get carried out. So it is not just your plan, the neighborhood decides together.
Last year the youth carnival association in Eckelrade came up with the idea for a natural playground. This summer it is growing into a real meeting place for children of all ages. 🌳 That started with just someone thinking: this could be better.
All info about conditions and how to submit can be found on the municipality website.
What many people do not realize: with the Participatory Budget, you do not just decide about your own idea. All participants vote collectively on every submitted plan. That means you also have influence over which other neighborhood projects go ahead or not. It is essentially a mini-democracy within your own municipality, where you have direct say over where public money goes.
