A year after the collapse of the Wilhelmina Tower in Valkenburg (March 16, 2025), a major shock that left many with a heavy heart, we can now look forward to a beautiful, traditional yet modern view of the Heunsberg, thanks to the ‘t Kruus op d’n Tore Foundation.
The ‘t Kruus op d’n Tore Foundation has worked hard on a new design. The original tower will not be rebuilt; instead, an alternative is being explored: a freestanding structure featuring a new illuminated cross. The cross would be placed on a steel substructure approximately 35 meters high, restoring that familiar sight from various parts of Valkenburg. Watch the impressive impression video below.
The foundation is collaborating with the Valkenburg-based Frijns Industrial Group. With this new construction, they aim to use a stylized form to refer back to the original design, keeping its memory alive. Preferably, the new cross will be placed at the original location, though feasibility studies are still ongoing.
