What happens when you put nearly 90 neighbors in one room and ask: what would you actually do for our village? That is exactly what unfolded on 1 June at the second Bergcafé in Ubachsberg, and the energy was real.
The first edition brought in over fifty ideas. Four of those are already up and running. This time the question went deeper: not just what matters, but who is willing to roll up their sleeves?
More than twenty initiatives now have residents ready to lead them. The plans are wonderfully mixed:
- Activities that bring neighbors together 🤝
- Culture and youth projects
- Greening the village 🌳
- Smoother communication between clubs, residents and the municipality
The best part? The room held every generation. From someone who has lived here for 76 years to a newcomer who arrived just nine weeks ago. Special guest Jos Nijsten from Citizens’ Initiative Gen Hout shared how a similar evening years ago grew into a village full of thriving projects.

Behind the scenes, the village coalition has set a bigger ambition: they want to support local initiatives not just with encouragement, but with real help on organisation, guidance and fundraising. A proper structure for this is currently being designed, meaning residents with a strong idea will soon have actual backing to get it off the ground.
