Did you know homelessness is not always visible? Some people sleep on the streets, but others crash at friends, family, or even in their cars. To get a better picture of this situation, Horst aan de Maas is participating in a major national count this year.
In total, 96 municipalities across 11 regions are taking part, including North and Central Limburg. More than 800 organizations are helping with this count, including:
- Shelter organizations
- Healthcare institutions
- Housing corporations
- Family doctors and schools
- Community centers
The count does not only look at people in shelters or on the streets. Hidden homelessness is also included. This way, we get a more complete picture.
Why does this matter? National numbers do not tell the whole story for our region. With this information, the municipality can work more effectively on solutions. Think about preventing homelessness or finding suitable housing faster.
Experts with lived experience emphasize: being seen and heard is often the first step toward help. Homelessness can happen to anyone.
