Did you know Limburg is officially the only real wine province in the Netherlands? And now you can actually learn how to grow and process those grapes yourself.
The Province of Limburg and Yuverta are teaming up for a brand new education program in winemaking. The first module is called Plant Physiology and Grape Quality, where you learn how soil, weather, and cultivation choices determine how good your grapes (and ultimately your wine) turn out.
Here is what you need to know:
- No prior education or work experience required
- You receive a certificate from Yuverta upon completion
- Theory and hands-on practice go hand in hand
- If there is enough interest, more modules will follow, think pruning, marketing, and actual winemaking
Deputy Jasper Kuntzelaers puts it well: good wine starts with knowledge. And that knowledge is now available to everyone. Whether you already have a vineyard or just dream about one.
Registration is open via Yuverta Lifelong Learning.
What most people do not realize: the program ties into a bigger vision of nature-inclusive viticulture. This means Limburg vineyards are not just producing wine but actively contributing to biodiversity, water retention, and preventing soil erosion on the hillsides. The wine sector is literally becoming a tool for landscape management.
